Monsoon - मानसून Throw / Blanket in indigo and metallic gold
The Monsoon blanket (dohar) is hand block printed on 100% cotton with carved woodblocks in Jaipur, India.
The art of block printing in India has not changed for hundreds of years and is a craft that is passed down though generations of printers who, with incredible accuracy and skill, are able to create the most intricate designs. Each layer of colour is carved in mirror image into a woodblock and these blocks are then used one at a time to apply the design onto the surface of the fabric which is stretched out along a long printing table. This level of handmade craftsmanship is something that we at Blocked by Clark love to see and wish to continue supporting.
Monsoon is a repeat raindrop design inspired by the Rajasthani monsoons which arrive in july and last until september in the region. It is a celebration of the rain which is marked in Rajasthan with the festival of Teej welcoming the monsoon in a typically flamboyant style. Monsoon is printed with a drier ink allowing for a lighter spread of colour for sharper more defined edges and a less uniform more playful finish. The indigo and metallic gold colour way is a classic combination with a nod to Rajasthani flamboyance. The reverse is printed with indigo raindrop outlines with occasional filled raindrops of the same colour. Monsoon was exclusively developed for the traditional art of hand block printing.
The Monsoon blanket is suitable for year round use. Filled with a cotton flannel layer for added weight but still light enough to use in summer. It works beautifully as a colourful throw or as a light cozy cover.
Due to the handmade process variation in the colour and print work should be expected, so no two designs will ever be exactly the same making each piece unique!
